Dreamcatchers...cats to catch your dreams....

April 2007- Autumn, and the end of daylight saving time, in our experience brings with it the most risk for cats to be hit by cars, invariably we hear of this  sad news around this time of year. Please remember that dusk is earlier, and light is less bright, and try to ensure, if your cat is allowed outdoors, that they are inside, and kept there, earlier than perhaps they have been accustomed to over summer.

May the tapestry of your lives be woven with rosy threads of love,

The deep reds of passion,

The quiet blues of understanding and contentment,

And the bright, bright silver of humour

Looking at these pictures I can see that Dreamcatchers Cats are certainly obviously "well loved", and this page sums up, for us, why we do what we do, and continue to strive to do it well, or even better! Thank you to all those who keep us updated with photos and information.

Burmese should be a medium sized, muscular cat, and should be heavier than the appearance might indicate. A good weight for a Burmese will show defined muscle, and preferably not cheek jowls, or excess " tummy". As with humans, being overweight can contribute to health problems and reduced exercise levels, for a cat. A glossy coat, clear eyes, and an alert expression are all indicators of good health.

We are so happy to have him, he really is just gorgeous. I don't think James and I have paid each other any attention since he arrived hah hah...

Our Welcome page features the two "Cover Boys"- as they featured previously on the covers of New Zealand Cat Fancy Quarterly Publication.

Dreamcatchers  Iceman ( aka Seamus) and
Dreamcatchers Griffin ( aka Dougal)

Seamus has now been joined by Dreamcatchers Yoda, a delightful seal boy, with a personality all his own!

I have just gone into the site. I am absolutely thrilled that both my boys are on there. I think that is a great introduction!! I can't wait to see more.

We have called our boy Dougal and he is already firmly ensconced in our hearts and in our home. He is a delightful little chap with quite a strong personality (which is still developing). He is amazingly settled and he is doing extremely well. The vet put a note on his card that he is 'lovely'.

Dreamcatchers Ayita

Dreamcatchers Jesse

Hi Christine, just thought I would touch base and let you know Jesse is really settled and having lots of fun with Lucy.

A photo of Lucy and Jesse from this morning is attached.

Hi there Christine, just updating you on Jesse. We had her spayed last week, all went well. She is doing just fine, very playful and energetic.  Loves being outside playing in the garden.

A picture of Lucy with Jesse, just like a baby.

Regards Angela

The vet thought Ayita had a beautiful face and lovely body and was very impressed with her very sweet nature.

So congratulations to you for the excellent choice you made for us and the fabulous breeding. She had an excellent start to life, her mother would be proud. She has had no accidents as far as her toileting is concerned and so she is completely trusted to have full range of the house. Stanley is very impressed with her, especially in the fact that she is so well toilet trained. So I thought you would like to hear that Ayita has settled in very well and my husband thinks she is wonderful. Especially as it is him she cuddles up to.

All the best, Amanda(Palmerston North)

she loves water and is fascinated by dripping taps, spends time sitting on the the washing machine watching the water drain, and loves to get into sinks and basins-
Hi Christine
I thought you might like some up dated photos of Ayita, taken just after her birthday!!
She is absolutely gorgeous as only could be expected an a real toe rag. She is so full of energy.
she isn't too keen on photos being taken, but once she gets into the swing she is a real poser.
She just loves being outside during the day, as long as it's not for too long! and her preference is for inside on overcast, wet, windy, cold, or too hot days, so she is inside more often than not. She doesn't wander and is always in calling range. She likes to be inside no later than 5:00 pm and is always ready for bed by 8:00pm. Yes she still likes to be put to bed and as you can tell from one of the photos it's one of her favourite places.
Hi Christine,
I know its been a while since I last gave you an update. here are a few of the photos I took of Ayita in the weekend.
She just continues to develop in personality and charm
She does not wander at all and is always in calling range.
Our immediate neighbours all know her and I only get compliments about her behaviour and looks.

Hiya,
Just a quick email to let you know that Zoe is growing well and is such a great wee cat, we really really enjoy her.  She has got the most fantastic personality, you really matched us up well. She has been introduced to outside, and shes a safe wee girl, only going out when sun shining and doesn't go far at all and always comes when you call her.She is just such an affectionate wee thing, loves company, heat of any kind, shes really become a great addition to the family.
So thanks again, we love our wee girl.

and

Hi Christine,
Glad you liked them, yes she is a beautiful wee girl, and i think quite stunning, my friend who is a burmese guru is quite taken by her!!
so go for gold with the photos.

Dreamcatchers Maia (Seal) and Dreamcatchers Midas (Chocolate)

and  Maia, below with Dreamcatchers Chuckleberry Finn (Chocolate)

Hi Christine and Jordan,
A very special thanks you you both.
After our 18 and a half year old lilac had to be put down recently, we both said ' NO MORE CATS'. Obviously, Burmese are addictive, as three weeks later we were at your place, seeing your latest litter. It's a real credit to you both, the time and effort you both put in to your cats and kittens. Dreamcatchers Maia and Midas settled in well, are so very affectionate and a lovely temperament. We would be pleased to recommend Dreamcatchers to any prospective owners. We are so pleased with our new family.

Hi there Christine and Jordan,

Well, Morpheus turned one yesterday, and I just thought I would send you this pic of him that I took today so that you can see what a handsome fellow he has turned into.A big fellow now, he's allowed outside when I am home, in before dark.

He is very friendly and affectionate and basically a pleasure to have around. He has made friends with a 6 month old kitten named Sam that lives across the road, and he is also friendly with the Birman and an older Burmese that live over the back fence. Sam and Morph are very cute together, they spent most of this morning playing outside in the garden - alternating chasing each other and lying in the sun. It's a hard life! When i took him to the Vet she asked how I had come up with his name, if it was from the movie the Matrix, and I said it was partly that and partly because his prefix was Dreamcatchers and Morpheus is the Greek god of dreams... Well, the vet just about had kittens, she has two of your cats, obviously she is pretty pleased with her Dreamcatchers as well!

Hope is all well with you guys - all the very best,

Fiona (and Morpheus), Wellington (Sept 05)

Hello Christine and Jordan,

Happy New Year.

I thought you might like an update on the wee boy. Although he is not so wee anymore! Growing by the day.

He loves to carry things around and drop them in a cardboard box. He's probably the most outgoing cat I've ever had- and the man at the cattery said that Morph was "one well-adjusted cat" and that he was "a super boy". I totally agree, of course. Here's a photo of him fooling around tonight (the cat, not the man from the cattery!)

Dreamcatchers Truman ( Claud) and Dreamcatchers Truly Scrumptious( Ella)

Dreamcatchers Rosie Posie and Dreamcatchers Miss Muffet (aka theTwins!)

Ella is just so pretty with her markings. They are really showing up now which is why I wanted to send you a photo. They both love cuddles and are both little monkeys and run around full tilt up and down the hall. They are so sweet natured and very much part of the family now. They really are lovely wee darlings. Everyone here adores them and they are constantly getting played with or cuddled. My vet daughter loves them and wants two exactly the same!! She will have to wait until she gets settled in Wellington next year. She says they are perfect and just what she would have! They are just adorable. I didn't need to worry about them being cuddly at all. I love Ella's colouring. She is so pretty and goes so well with Claud's colouring too.

HI Christine

Just a quick note to let you know that the girls have definitely settled into life in Wellington .I finally have a couple of photos to send you of the girls, which were taken yesterday. They thoroughly enjoy naps in the sunshine on my bed, and playing with their scratching posts – one of which they are sitting on in the pictures.  They are definitely growing, and getting bigger every day.  By the way, the photos are named after my sisters nicknames for the girls ‘freckles’ ‘gingernut’  or together ‘the twins’. Everyone who meets them comments on how they have to do everything together, and they are commonly known as ‘the twins’ by my family. They are currently spending their time running up and down the hallway playing chasing games, playing ‘king of the castle’ on their scratching tree, or sleeping.  Their favourite spots are the top shelf of the towel cupboard (next to the hot water cylinder) or sprawled out in front of the fire, in the way only burmese can, taking up more room than me (stretching out full length to get maximum heat).  They are eating well, and have had no accidents, and have both started talking whenever someone is around and cuddles are required.  They are now full of purrs and fun, and are very much at home.

Melissa (Wellington)

Hi Christine

The girls are very light on their backs, especially Rosie, and have very dark seal tummies.  Their colour is quite interesting.  They are beautiful to me, and have been a total joy to have  They are mostly inside cats, refusing to step foot outside if it is cold/wet/too early in the morning – so only go out with me when I’m gardening, and enjoy having a romp around.  My sister is appalled that they live such a life of luxury, while her Burmese has to fend for itself outside during the day, but I’m very overprotective of my girls.

They have truly become my ‘babies’ and we do everything together, including bath time (they supervise all showers and baths), cooking (again they supervise and comment on tasty bits of meat), preparing the fire (lots of pushing and shoving for who gets prime position in front of the fire), and bedtime (guess who hogs ¾ of the bed).  I’m currently looking at doing some renovations on the house in the future and have asked my kitchen and bathroom designer to make sure there is space for cat supervision of all activities, and am even getting a garden designer in to help with making my garden more of a cat playground (lots of grass for stalking and trees for climbing).  I guess you could say the cats are very spoilt.

I have attached a couple more photos, which are not the best photos, but will add to your collection of their adult look. Melissa.

Dreamcatchers Bonnie

It's a dog's life......Dreamcatchers Nija with his faithful companion....Rima

Hi Christine,

Bonnie is great she settled in so quickly, she is so cuddly and cute, we love her to bits, as you can imagine she is very spoilt, likes our bed and I mean right in with us...Bonnie goes to everyone who comes to visit a very social kitten, she eats well, and climbs anything in her path if we let her. We are so pleased with her..and

So sorry to hear about the blue boy in Auckland, it is so sad to loose your pet, as we only know too well, and all the hard work you and Jordan have done raising him. Bonnie is fine and is sitting on my knee and purring away as I write this to you, Bonnie is going out side but hasn't been for long, we make sure she is in doors by 5.30pm, and we keep a close watch on her while out side, She isn't allowed out side while we are at work, she has the run of the house, she is such a lovely kitten,

I took a film in to be developed today, all of Bonnie I will send you a couple of nice ones soon.

Karyn and Dave

( Blenheim)

Hi Christine.

Nija is doing really well, settled in like he was always here. He really is everything we thought a Burmese would be and more, so much the entertainer when he is awake. The dog has been really good with him, just relaxing and not putting any pressure on so Nija seems to think Rima is just a big cat.Have enclosed a photo of them together, hope you enjoy it. All the best for now, keep warm. Regards Murray

Dreamcatchers Poppet ( Pippin)

Hi Christine,

Pippin (Poppet) was speyed on Friday so I will send the paperwork back to you tomorrow. She is a total delight & knows she is a princess! She finds her voice very useful for ensuring she gets her own way & is really frustrated that she can't go outside with her stitches in.

I've attached some shots of her with her best mate Seymour. They are inseparable & she certainly keeps him in line even though he is much bigger than her now.

We went to the local cat show yesterday but of course decided that 'our girl' was far superior to anything on display. We do however now think that Abyssinians & Burmillas are rather cute.

Hope all is well with you & the felines.
Regards,
Anne, Wellington

Dreamcatchers Mocha

Hi Christine

Just thought I would send through some pics of Mocca, most of them are with the dog they are the best of friends! Mocca is such a lovely cat he is so loving and a real part of our family. Mocca and the dog are just so funny together the dog washes Mocca till he's absolutely soaking, Mocca loves it he even washes the dog! I have a friend who got a Burmese from Blenheim and he is the same colour and looks 100% identical it is amazing would they be some how related? I hope to get another cat like Mocca one day when my husband gives in.

Regards Hayley, Invercargill

Milo- who returned home after 7 long months- (see below) with his friend Sandy....We are absolutely delighted with the news that Milo returned (or was returned ) back to his family after 7 months of being missing-and much missed. Young Kimberley is delighted also to have her Milo home- it was a real Easter Blessing for us to hear of his safe return, on a hope and a prayer........

Last year Janice said.."Milo has just fitted in so well. I have never had a pet that has slotted so seamlessly into our lives ( or is it the other way round?)"

and now...

Just a quick message to let you know that Milo has settled back in to life at our house again so well. Mind you with the pampering he has had it is no wonder. He has made his peace with the other animals and is getting on better with them every day.

Dreamcatchers Sylvanna- a Lilac Tortie

known as Sylvie, and much loved , (even when she is being a real monkey), by our friends Barry, Lindsey and Scott

Dreamcatchers Pearl Lustre, (Mimi) left, and Dreamcatchers Rolls Royce, ( Max) right, and together, 2nd from left below. Dreamcatchers Rolls Royce has just gone to join his sister Pearl, who went to her new home In May. The picture of them together was taken on the first day of being reunited, and obviously both are very happy about it!

Royce at 5 weeks old!

In memory of:

Dreamcatchers Griffin, known as Dougal,(April 2005), the first of the Pets we have bred to have achieved Premier status, the Neuter / Spay equivalent of Champion.-an achievement later gained by Seamus also.

Dougal held a special place in our hearts, as do all our kittens, we are always thrilled to keep up with their progress, and always share the loss and pain of their families in sad times. Dougal was much loved by Lorraine, Jason and Peter and a real part of their family.

Dreamcatchers Midas, sadly also lost to a hit and run driver. Midas was also much loved by us all, and we felt privileged that Helen and Barry became good friends, and we were able to see how Midas and Maia were both cared for, and much loved. We shared their pain and distress at losing  Midas.

Dreamcatchers Toby, much loved pet of Martin, Susanna, Lauren, Robert and Andrew. Toby grew up with family members, and so we especially shared their sadness when he too was lost to " the great outdoors" May there be many meadows and hills, sunshine, good friends and happy times for Dougal, Midas and Toby at Rainbow Bridge-adieu to  kind, gentle and loving friends.

Cat's playground..

a fabulous enclosure, built by friends after losing their cat as a result of being hit by a car,

this is accessed by the cats via a laundry door cat flap, and has  tables, shelves, scratching posts and climbing poles, along with safe trees, cat grass and cat mint...all the comforts of home! and no more worries about the safety of precious pets.
